Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi (R) and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi
Raisi congratulated Sisi on his re-election for a new six-year term, the Egyptian presidential spokesman said in a statement.
They also “followed-up on discussions to address the outstanding issues between both countries," added the statement.
"Raisi said Iran was ready to provide all its capacities to stop the genocide by the Zionist regime and send aid to the Palestinians," Iranian state TV reported, adding that it was the first time the two presidents had spoken by phone.
Egyptian-Iranian relations have warmed recently following a prolonged period of estrangement dating to the ousting of Iran's Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi during the 1979 Islamic Revolution and Egypt's peace treaty with Israel.
In November, Sisi and Raisi held an unprecedented meeting on the sidelines of the Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh.
During the meeting, they discussed the situation in Gaza as well as bilateral relations.
