According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Shoukry emphasized the need for the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2720 in the telephone call that he received from his Iranian counterpart on Monday.
He stressed the importance of ensuring full and sustained access to humanitarian aid in Gaza, urging the establishment of a UN mechanism to facilitate its entry and monitoring.
UN Security Council Resolution 2720 demands parties to the ongoing conflict “allow, facilitate and enable the immediate, safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance” at scale, to the Palestinian population of Gaza. It also calls for the “urgent suspension of hostilities” to allow safe and unhindered access.
The two ministers exchanged assessments of the deteriorating humanitarian and security conditions in the Gaza Strip.
They also discussed international efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis affecting Egypt's Palestinian brothers.
On Saturday, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to discuss the latest developments in the embattled Gaza Strip.
