In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said it had not received any reports on the alleged murder crime, reiterating that the villa referenced in the clip is owned by Egyptians.

The ministry refutes “the allegations circulated on social media regarding the killing of a journalist in the Red Sea governorate after he published a clip wherein he claimed to have obtained documents proving that the mother-in-law of the head of a foreign state owns a villa in the Red Sea governorate,” read the statement.

The interior ministry located the villa mentioned in the clip and found that it is owned by Egyptians, according to the statement.

“The security apparatuses also affirmed that it has not received any reports that the person who appeared in the video clip was subject to abuse,” added the statement.

In July, investigative journalist Mohamed El-Rawi claimed in a video on YouTube he obtained a contract indicating the sale of a villa in the upscale resort town of Gouna to Zelensky's mother-in-law.

The clip led to speculation that the Ukrainian president was misusing funds allocated to Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.

YouTube shut down El-Rawi’s YouTube channel, although his videos can still be shared on Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter.

In late August, Orascom Development, the owner of Gouna, denied El-Rawi’s claim.
