According to an official statement, Al-Azhar strongly condemned the terrorist attack by Israeli forces on the sheikh's house and all genocidal operations by Israel that target Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Azhar further stressed that Israel's crimes, massacres, and terrorism are all miserable attempts that will not undermine the determination, patience, and strength of the Palestinian people.

According to Palestinian news agency (WAFA), Israeli warplanes targeted the home of Sheikh Salama, killing him and injuring several members of his family.

Since the war began, Israel’s air and ground campaign on Gaza has reduced large parts of the strip to rubble and killed over 21,000 people.

The Palestinian health ministry said that 70 percent of the dead are women and children.

Furthermore, over 55,000 people have been wounded in more than two months of fighting, according to the ministry's latest figures.
