Indonesian Red Cross signs MoU with Egyptian Red Crescent to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza

The Indonesian embassy in Cairo witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian Red Cross and the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) for purchasing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.



The ERC is to assist the Indonesian Red Cross in purchasing humanitarian aid from Egypt to the Gaza Strip which includes food, drinking water, blankets, cleaning supplies, medicines, and ambulance cars, amounting to approximately $704,000. 

This brings the total aid provided by the Indonesian government and people through Egypt to Palestine so far to about 910 tons, worth $6.42 million.

“The embassy in Cairo, last November, facilitated the distribution of humanitarian aid from the government and people of Indonesia, with a total of 72 tons of aid sent via five planes to Arish International Airport in cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent and the Palestinian Red Crescent, and UNRWA,” Lutfi Rauf, the Indonesian ambassador to Egypt, said.

Ambassador Rauf added that during November-December 2023, the embassy facilitated the signing of an MoU between the ERC and humanitarian agencies as well as institutions from Indonesia, such as the Indonesian National Zakat Board (BAZNAS), the NPC Foundation, and the IHA Foundation, to supply and send humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, with a total value of $1.13 million.

Moreover, other Indonesian humanitarian institutions have delivered their aid to the Palestinian people through Egypt, like the Lazis NU Foundation, the Lazis MU Foundation, the Lazis ASFA Foundation, the Rumah Zakat Foundation, the SalamID Foundation, the Sedekah Nusantara Foundation, the Sekolah Relawan Foundation, the DT Peduli Foundation, the FPAG Foundation, and the Hands Foundation. Ambassador Rauf indicated.
