Rashwan expressed Egypt’s ongoing commitment to help calm the situation in the Gaza Strip and stop the Israeli aggression, according to a SIS statement.

The framework proposal – thrashed out during a meeting in Paris involving Egyptian, Qatari, Israeli and US officials in late January – was handed over to the Palestinian movement by Egypt.

Egypt, Rashwan added, will discuss all the details of the proposed framework deal with the concerned parties, assuring that Cairo will intensify meetings to reach an agreement in its final formula as soon as possible.

Rashwan stressed that Egypt will continue its endeavours to end the fighting in Gaza, preserve the lives of the Palestinian people, and uphold their legitimate rights, noting that the agreement on the proposed framework deal will be necessary for this process.

The SIS chief said Egypt will provide updates concerning the negotiation efforts with the concerned parties.

Earlier Tuesday, Hamas said it handed its response on a truce deal aimed at halting Israel's war on Gaza. 

"A short while ago, the Hamas movement delivered its response to the framework agreement to the brothers in Qatar and Egypt," a statement said, referring to a comprehensive and full ceasefire.

According to media reports, the Paris proposal includes a 45-day truce, where 35-40 Israeli captives – mainly the women, elderly and wounded – will be released in its first phase in exchange for 100-250 Palestinian prisoners for each captive.

Further extension of the truce can then be negotiated to release more captives and prisoners in the next phases of the agreement.

Israel's ground invasion and relentless bombardment have killed more than 27,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, and wounded over 67,000, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
