In a phone call on Wednesday, President El-Sisi highlighted to PM Meloni Egypt’s efforts to deliver desperately needed humanitarian aid and relief to the people of the Gaza Strip. 

According to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy, El-Sisi emphasized to Meloni the vital necessity to make tangible progress in efforts to restore calm in the region and advance the path of the two-state solution to the Palestinian cause.

The President and the Italian Prime Minister also discussed other developments and ongoing escalation in the region.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Italy in various fields.

The call comes as Egypt is set to host a new round of Israel-Hamas truce talks on Thursday, as reported by Al-Qahera News TV, citing an Egyptian official source.

The truce talks, sponsored by Egypt and Qatar, will focus on reaching a ceasefire through an agreement on a prisoner swap and guarantees for the entry of humanitarian aid to 2.4 million Palestinians under a four-month Israeli bombardment and blockade in Gaza.

Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the strip on 7 October, Egypt has facilitated delivering humanitarian aid from different countries to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing and other crossings to Gaza.
