Head of State Information Service (SIS) Diaa Rashwan
“No one has an interest in unjustly and dishonestly embarrassing Egypt or trying to show that Cairo is negligent towards the Palestinians,” Rashwan said in a TV comment on Friday, describing the Palestinian cause as the most important cause.
The Egyptian Presidency responded in a statement on Friday to claims made by US President Joe Biden on Thursday that Egypt was reluctant to open the Rafah crossing to allow aid to reach the strip's residents.
The Presidency affirmed that the crossing has been open from its side since the start of the war while blaming Israel for making the crossing inaccessible and unsafe for aid convoys after its earlier shelling of the Palestinian side of it.
In his comment, Rashwan highlighted that the US has sent 200 flights to Israel carrying 10,000 shells and missiles.
“Is Israel… in need of these missiles, bombs, and weapon spare parts to live, or did all these weapons kill 30,000, injure 70,000, and destroy 70 percent of Gaza?” he wondered.
He pointed out that Egypt has provided 80 percent of all aid delivered to Gaza.
“What is the amount of US aid? Are there any other crossings from Israel to Gaza that received aid from Washington?"
Biden's advisors and interested parties are aware of five other crossings. He should have mentioned their complete closure, which contributed to the 15-year siege of Gaza, Rashwan said.
The SIS chief urged Biden to visit the Gaza Strip personally to witness the catastrophic conditions caused by the devastating Israeli war and see for himself who is obstructing aid.
Rashwan emphasised that satellites could be utilised to expose Biden’s false allegations.
