The Belgian PM made his comment in response to El-Sisi’s review of the country’s efforts to reach a ceasefire, exchange detainees, and ensure the entry of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza in a sustainable and urgent manner.

The Egyptian president expressed his appreciation for the Belgian position on the war and Brussels' efforts in calming the situation, as well as its full rejection of the ongoing escalation, according to the Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.

For his part, the Belgian PM also affirmed his country’s agreement with the Egyptian vision. He also expressed his country’s willingness to support Egyptian efforts to activate the two-state solution and establish an independent Palestinian state.

Furthermore, De Croo stressed his country’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt to prevent the expansion of the conflict and restore stability in the region.

According to Fahmy, the call also touched on the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as Egypt’s relations with the European Union, in light of Belgium’s assumption of the rotating presidency of the European Union in January.

In this regard, both sides affirmed their aspiration to continue cooperating in various fields, in addition to enhancing coordination and consultation on regional and international challenges.

Since 7 October, Israel has continued its brutal and relentless war in the Gaza Strip, launching overnight and early morning assaults.

At least 29,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed and nearly 70,000 wounded in the Israeli war, while over 1.9 million have been displaced.
