El-Sisi's remarks came during a meeting with the Leader of Iraq's National Wisdom Movement Ammar Al-Hakim and his accompanying delegation in Cairo, attended by the Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Major General Abbas Kamel.

The meeting also touched on the tense regional situation and the war in the Gaza Strip, where both sides confirmed the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting civilians and reaching a ceasefire. 

During the talks, both sides also reviewed Egypt’s extensive efforts to reach a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza to mitigate the severe humanitarian suffering of the Palestinians.

Furthermore, El-Sisi and Al-Hakim affirmed the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive settlement for the Palestinian cause, and warned of the gravity of the ongoing escalation and its repercussions on stability in the region.

From his part, Al-Hakim underscored the strong and profound historical relations between both countries, emphasizing Egypt’s pivotal role in protecting the security and stability of the Arab region. He also lauded Cairo's backing for Iraq and its support of all Arab and Islamic countries.

Earlier this month, the US military struck more than 85 targets in Syria and Iraq linked to pro-Iranian militias, in retaliation for a 28 January drone attack on a base in Jordan that killed three US soldiers.

Since 7 October, Israel has continued its brutal and relentless war in the Gaza Strip, launching overnight and early morning assaults.

Israel killed at least 29,000 Palestinians in Gaza, mostly women and children, wounded nearly 70,000, and displaced over 1.9 million.
