President El-Sisi's remarks came during a meeting with a delegation from the UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, led by its Chair, Alicia Kearns, along with the British Ambassador in Cairo.
El-Sisi reviewed with the UK delegation Cairo's efforts to reach an agreement on achieving a ceasefire, exchanging prisoners and captives, and providing access to humanitarian aid in Gaza, according to the Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
El-Sisi also stressed the crucial need for the international community to assume its responsibility to protect the Palestinians from the humanitarian catastrophe they endure.
Furthermore, he underlined Egypt’s role in mobilising and delivering humanitarian and relief aid through the Rafah border crossing and aid airdrops to areas most affected by the Israeli blockade on the strip in northern Gaza.
El-Sisi reiterated that a lasting and just solution for tensions in the Middle East can only be reached by establishing an independent Palestinian State per the resolutions of international legitimacy.
He also warned against the dangers of widening the scope of the current war in the Gaza conflict, stressing the need to restore security in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandeb Strait.
The UK delegation expressed, for their part, Britain's deep appreciation for Egypt's balanced and responsible political and humanitarian role in containing regional tensions and conflicts.
They also affirmed the UK’s support for reaching a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and opening avenues for regional peace.
According to the Egyptian Presidential Spokesman, the meeting also touched on relations between Egypt and the UK, which have recently given a new impetus to cooperation between the two countries in almost every field.
