Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid denied on Monday that the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum was recently attacked after photos were spread by Arab TV channels and news websites showing the badly-damaged embassy building.

“This incident occurred months ago during the armed conflict in Sudan,” Abu Zeid said.

Egypt already sent a committee to assess the damages, he said, adding that the embassy had already been evacuated and did not have any important documents in it at the time.

“It's regrettable that some media outlets have circulated old photos of damage,” he said

Earlier Monday, Dubai-based Sky News Arabia News Channel and Riyadh-based Al-Hadth News Channel shared photos of the damaged building.

In April, an assistant administrative attaché from the Egyptian foreign ministry was killed in the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

As the fighting continued, the Egyptian diplomatic mission moved to its consulates in Wadi Halfa and Port Sudan to serve Egyptian and Sudanese citizens.
