According to the official statement, the church said that the attack resulted in the death of Monk Hegumen Takla El-Samuely (deputy of the Coptic Diocese of South Africa), Monk Yostos Ava Markos, and Monk Mina Ava Markos.
Relevant agencies are investigating the incident, the statement noted, adding that the Egyptian ambassador in Johannesburg is also following up on the situation.
The statement further said that Head of the Coptic Orthodox Church Pope Tawadros II is closely following the incident and is waiting to be informed of its causes.
The church expressed its deep grief over the tragic incident, extending its sincere condolences to the families of the monks, and praying to God to grant them comfort and reveal the truth.
