Greek Minister of Immigration and Asylum Dimitris Kairidis and Ambassador of Egypt to Greece Omar Amer Youssef during their meeting.
Kairidis and Youssef agreed that the relations between the two countries are excellent and that the close Greek-Egyptian friendship is a significant pillar of peace in the Eastern Mediterranean.
They also discussed the latest developments in irregular migration to find the best solutions.
According to Kairidis, Egypt, which currently hosts 9 million refugees from all over Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, contributes decisively to combating illegal trafficking and managing migratory pressure towards Europe.
Kairidis thanked Youssef for Egypt's cooperation and stressed that Greece remains Egypt's strongest European supporter.
During the meeting, the two officials agreed to intensify talks on dealing jointly with irregular migration, especially under the agreement signed in 2022 between Greece and Egypt in that regard.
