Blinken arrived in Cairo earlier Thursday, following a visit to Jeddah on Wednesday, in his sixth regional tour since the start of Israel's war on Gaza on 7 October.

The Arab foreign ministers will convene in Cairo with the secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization ahead of meeting with Blinken.

These meetings are the latest in a series of ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Israel’s six-month-long war on Gaza and increase the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Palestinians who are at risk of famine.

International mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the US are holding talks to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Doha with a team of Israeli negotiators attending.

The United States has circulated a draft UN Security Council resolution calling for an "immediate ceasefire linked to the release of hostages" in the Gaza Strip, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday.

Blinken is set to leave Cairo for Tel Aviv to update Israel on his talks with the Arab leaders, according to a previous statement by the US State Department.
