Kamel made this affirmation while attending an iftar banquet in Benghazi with Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar, according to a statement by the LNA.

Kamel and Haftar discussed the advancement of the Libyan political process, endorsing the balanced efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

Moreover, the Egyptian intelligence chief commended the LNA for its pivotal role in preserving security and stability within Libya, thereby positively impacting the entire region.

Haftar also praised Egypt's endeavors in supporting Libya to achieve a political settlement for the ongoing crisis.

The international community, including Libya's eastern neighbour Egypt, has consistently advocated for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya.

Elections are imperative in Libya for ending over a decade of instability and a longstanding split between east and west administrations.

In March, the heads of the Libyan Presidential Council, High State Council, and House of Representatives convened in Cairo, agreeing to establish a new unified government responsible for overseeing the long-awaited elections.

In a joint statement, the three leaders urged the international community and the UNSMIL to support their proposals.

UNSMIL's head Abdoulaye Bathily earlier dubbed the formation of a unified government as an “imperative” to lead the country to elections.
