FM Shoukry also highlighted to Minister Ahmad the need to enforce and build on the UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza even after the holy fasting month of Ramadan ends, according to the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Israel has refused to implement the recent UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire as it continued its intense bombardment of Gaza.

Since the beginning of its brutal war on Gaza on 7 October, Israel has killed and injured more than 100,000 Palestinians and imposed a full blockade on Gaza that threatens the population there with famine.

FM Shoukry also stressed to Minister Ahmad that humanitarian aid must be delivered in a way that meets the urgent needs of Palestinians in Gaza and that the international community must put pressure on Israel to open all the land border crossings with Gaza under its control.

He also made it clear to Ahmad that Egypt categorically rejects any Israeli military operation in Rafah.

On a different note, the ministers discussed the ongoing threats to navigation in the Red Sea, the crisis in Lebanon, and the situation in Sudan, Libya and Yemen, added Abu Zeid.

Furthermore, Shoukry and Ahmad agreed on the importance of politically opening up the horizon for establishing and recognizing a Palestinian state based on the two-state solution, with Shoukry stressing to Ahmad the need for international parties to work seriously towards creating such a state.

For his part, Ahmad lauded the fruitful cooperation between Egypt and the UK in delivering aid to Gaza and Cairo’s pivotal role since the crisis arose.
