The PAM prize is awarded annually to individuals and organizations whose outstanding contributions in various domains significantly advance political, and socio-economic development, environmental protection, culture, and inter-religious dialogue in the Euro-Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf regions, thereby fostering peace and prosperity.
President El-Sisi has been chosen as the 2024 laureate for his remarkable efforts in seeking a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, facilitating the delivery of critical aid to Palestinians, and securing the release of captives, according to a statement issued by the PAM on Monday.
His leadership and dedication have played a pivotal role in promoting peace and stability in the region, noted the statement.
"Egypt's ongoing endeavours to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza, negotiate lasting ceasefires, and advocate for a two-state solution align with the principles enshrined in the UN charter and relevant resolutions,” the PAM said.
The nation's commitment to preventing further escalation of conflicts underscores its crucial role in safeguarding international and regional peace and security.
The official announcement of President El-Sisi as the recipient of the PAM Prize will take place during the opening session of the 18th PAM plenary session, scheduled for 15 May in Braga, Portugal.
The ceremony will honour President El-Sisi's exemplary leadership and commendable contributions to advancing peace and cooperation in the Mediterranean region.
