During a meeting in Cairo, the top diplomats discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, with a focus on the war in Gaza.
Shoukry stressed the necessity of preventing the liquidation of the Palestinian cause through the forced displacement of Palestinians.
He also emphasized the importance reaching a permanent solution to the Palestinian cause through a two-state solution.
Egypt's top diplomat lauded the Irish stance towards the Gaza war and the suffering of the Palestinians.
Meanwhile, Martin lauded Egypt’s role in facilitating the exit of the Irish citizens from the Gaza Strip, pointing out that 40 Irish citizens are still in Gaza.
He said that he would visit Rafah to stand on the challenges and restrictions in addition to the insufficient humanitarian aid supplies, asserting Ireland’s support for UNRWA’s indispensable role in the Strip.
He added that the meeting with Shoukry tackled efforts exerted to reach a ceasefire, praising the Egyptian efforts in this regard.
For over six months, Israel has continued its brutal war in the Gaza Strip, killing more than 34,000 Palestinians, most of whom are women and children, and wounding over 76,000 others.
Since the outbreak of the war, Egypt has been pushing for an extended ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and sustained access to humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of civilians there.
