Following the discovery of mass graves in Nasser and Al-Shifa hospitals in Gaza, the world’s most influential Sunni Islamic institution Al-Azhar called for an international trial for the Israeli occupation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Al-Azhar strongly condemned “the terrorist crimes committed and still being committed by the oppressive Zionist entity against civilians in the Gaza Strip” after several reports revealed the existence of mass graves containing hundreds of bodies of children, women, elders, and medical personnel.

Al-Azhar added that these mass graves were found near the Nasser and Al-Shifa medical complexes in Gaza and that dozens of "scattered" bodies were found in shelters, displacement tents, and residential neighbourhoods across the strip.

“These mass graves are conclusive evidence that these atrocities and dreadful horrors have become a daily norm for this entity,” Al-Azhar stressed, calling on the peoples of the world to unite in forcing Israel to stop the war and pressure its allies to halt these crimes.

In addition, Al-Azhar demanded an urgent international trial for what it described as 'the terrorist Zionist occupation government', which Al-Azhar said has lost all sense of humanity as it continues to commit daily massacres as part of its genocidal war against the Palestinians.

Al-Azhar also reaffirmed the international community's responsibility to stop the savage aggression against the people of Gaza, which has led to unprecedented suffering and humanitarian disasters.

“This should ensure the protection of civilians and the delivery of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid throughout the strip,” Al-Azhar added, offering its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the Palestinian people and the families of the martyrs.
