The meeting comes within the framework of Egypt's commitment to supporting all pathways towards comprehensive settlement in Libya, based on legitimate Libyan institutions, according to informed sources.
Egypt has repeatedly stressed the need for holding of the national Libyan elections and the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries, and fighters from Libya in compliance with relevant international resolutions.
The Libyan elections were originally scheduled for December 2021 but have been postponed several times due to disagreements between the country’s rival factions.
