Shoukry discusses Gaza, Libya, Sudan in meetings at Islamic summit

Minister of Foreign Sameh Shoukry discussed the war on Gaza, the situation in Libya and Sudan as well as bilateral relations in a series of meetings with counterparts from Indonesia, Sudan, Pakistan and the Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council on the sideline of the Islamic summit in Gambia’s Banjul.

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Shoukry discussed the latest developments in Gaza with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. Marsudi and Shoukry focused on reinvigorating the Arab Islamic Ministerial Contact Committee and enhancing communication with key capitals.

They also discussed Indonesia's support for Palestine and the urgent need for humanitarian aid amid the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Shoukry emphasized Egypt's efforts towards a lasting ceasefire, urging Israel's compliance with international resolutions and humanitarian principles.

He criticized the international community's inconsistent response to the Palestinian crisis and highlighted the dire humanitarian situation worsened by Israel's restrictions on aid access.

Both ministers pledged continued collaboration to address regional challenges and strengthen bilateral relations.

The foreign ministry stated that Shoukry met with Sudanese Foreign Minister Hussein Awad, congratulating him on assuming his position and expressing his hope for the success of efforts to establish security and stability in Sudan and achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

According to the foreign ministry, the meeting addressed the latest developments in the region, particularly the situations in both Gaza and Sudan.

Meeting with Pakistan FM

In a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Sameh Shoukry reviewed Egyptian efforts to resolve the Gaza crisis and its developments.

They also discussed ways to enhance ties between the two countries and ways to boost cooperation, particularly in economic and cultural areas.

Shoukry invited Dar to Cairo, and both expressed interest in further political consultations and joint committees.

Meeting with Libyan official

Shoukry met with Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council Musa Al-Koni on the summit sidelines on Saturday.

The foreign ministry explained that Shoukry stressed Egypt’s keenness to support the Libyan Presidential Council and preserve its unity and cohesion.

The foreign minister also renewed Egypt's firm position in support of the Libyan-to-Libyan solution path, noting Cairo's continued efforts to bring viewpoints between the sides closer.
