"The Arab Republic of Egypt views this decision as supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to end Israeli occupation and establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital," said the foreign ministry.
The foreign ministry urged the continuation of such efforts that are valued by the international community to create a political path towards reviving a genuine peace process.
"This process should address the root causes of the Palestinian cause and restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to an independent state," the statement read.
Egypt called on influential international parties to assume their moral and historical responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and intervene to protect their rights during these challenging humanitarian times.
The foreign ministry also called on the international community to put an end to the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and to recognize the State of Palestine as a crucial step towards a just resolution to the Palestinian cause.
Armenia's move comes following similar decisions by Slovenia, Norway, Spain, and Ireland to recognize Palestinian statehood.
So far, 140 countries have recognized a State of Palestine, comprising more than two-thirds of the member-states of the United Nations.
On Friday, the Palestinian presidency commended Armenia's decision.
In May, the UN General Assembly passed an Arab-proposed draft resolution by a more than two-thirds majority to reconsider and support Palestine's UN membership.
The resolution grants Palestine several rights, such as introducing and co-sponsoring proposals and amendments and raising procedural motions.
It also grants it a seat among the UNGA member states and other privileges.
