“Egypt condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks that targeted places of worship and a police station in Dagestan,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Ahmed Abu-Zeid wrote on X platform on Monday.
Abu-Zeid voiced Egypt’s categorical rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism, expressing its solidarity with Russia.
He also extended condolences to the victims' families, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
On Sunday, gunmen opened fire on two Orthodox churches, a synagogue, and a police post in two cities in Dagestan, according to the Russian authorities.
Both the church and the synagogue caught fire, according to state media.
The attacks left 19 people killed, including at least 15 police officers, an Orthodox priest, and civilians, Russian authorities stated Monday.
Moreover, at least 12 people were injured due to the attacks, which took place in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks.
