Abdelatty made his remarks during a meeting on Sunday with Charge d'Affaires of the UN Mission to Libya Stephanie Khoury, who is on a visit to Cairo.

The Egyptian minister said the withdrawal of foreign fighters from Libya will preserve its unity, safety, and stability, according to a statement by the foreign ministry.

Abdelatty added that Egypt will continue exerting efforts to help the Libyan parties reach reconciliation and push for a Libyan/Libyan solution till the long-awaited presidential and parliamentary elections are held.

Furthermore, he expressed Egypt's aspiration to enhance cooperation with Khoury in a way that contributes to the success of the UN mission and helps reach a Libyan-owned solution to the crisis in Libya.

Meanwhile, Khoury revealed her intention to coordinate closely with Egypt to establish sustainable stability across Libya.

She also praised Egypt's pivotal role in the region, especially regarding the Libyan crisis.

Since the last-minute cancellation of the elections scheduled for the end of December 2021, Libyan officials have been unable to resolve outstanding points to pave the way for the crucial legislative process.

In late April, Khoury replaced Senegalese diplomat Abdoulaye Bathily who resigned after 18 months, citing Libyan leaders' "lack of political will and good faith" to support the country's political transition.

Libya is still struggling to recover from the years of war and chaos after the 2011 overthrow of longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi.

The country is divided between a UN-recognized government based in Tripoli and a rival administration in the east.

Clashes periodically occur in the oil-rich country between its myriad armed groups.
