This came during a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi in Amman.
The meeting underscored the strength of the bilateral relations between the two countries on various levels, serving as a model of brotherhood and cooperation between two Arab nations facing numerous common challenges and sharing multiple interests, according to a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry.
Abdelatty emphasized the importance of closely coordinating Egyptian-Jordanian positions concerning the ongoing war in Gaza, noting that both countries are the most affected due to their geographical proximity.
He praised Jordan's role in supporting Palestinian refugees, especially through its position as the first vice-chair of the advisory committee of UNRWA in 2024-2025.
He also highlighted Egypt's support for its efforts to enable the UNRWA to perform its role in Gaza and other areas including Syria, Lebanon, and the West Bank.
The current state of negotiations between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, was also reviewed.
The two top diplomats reiterated their opposition to any Israeli plans aimed at displacing Palestinians from Gaza to Egyptian territories or from the West Bank to Jordan, according to the statement.
They stressed that Israel alone bears full responsibility for the current situation as the occupying power under international law and blatant violations of international and humanitarian laws in Gaza, resulting in massive destruction and the loss of tens of thousands of lives in Rafah.
Abdelatty highlighted the current instability in the region triggered by the negative repercussions of the ongoing war in Gaza, including escalating tensions in southern Lebanon, and disruption to navigation in the Red Sea with its impact on the Suez Canal due to the crisis in Yemen.
The top diplomats also discussed developments in Syria and joint efforts to activate the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq, according to the statement.
