Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and German Foreign and Security Policy Adviser Jens Plötner.
During a phone call with the German Foreign and Security Policy Adviser Jens Plötner, Abdelatty affirmed the Egyptian-German relations and Germany's support for Egypt in facing various challenges, according to a statement by the foreign ministry.
Gaza war
The call also touched on the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, where Abdelatty stressed the importance of major European countries' support to the Palestinian rights by officially recognising the Palestinian state and promoting the two-state solution.
Abdelatty said such a step is crucial amid the serious stances of the Israeli Knesset, the latest of which rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state and considering UNRWA a terrorist organisation, the statement noted.
Abdelatty considered these actions as a significant blow to the progress made by the international community in recent years toward achieving the two-state solution.
Israel, whose brutal war on Gaza has continued for nearly ten months, is facing mounting international pressure to agree to a Gaza ceasefire.
Howevr, the Knesset's moves further threaten to disrupt the ongoing talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire.
Since the war began on 7 October, Israel has killed 39,090 people, injured 90,147, mostly women and children, caused extensive damage to Gaza's infrastructure, and displaced most of the strip’s residents.
Sudan crisis
Both sides also discussed the situation in Sudan, where Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's hosting of Sudan's Political and Civil Forces Conference. The event was the first gathering for these forces since the outbreak of the conflict.
He said conference aimed to bridge the gap between the Sudanese factions and underscore the significance of pursuing a peaceful resolution and reconciliation among the Sudanese forces.
Sudan's Political and Civil Forces Conference is the latest in a series of efforts made by Egypt to address the Sudanese crisis and halt the war there, in cooperation with regional and international partners, especially Sudan's neighbouring countries.
For his part, the German official highlighted Egypt's crucial role in the regional stability, expressing his country's appreciation for Egypt's role in all regional issues, especially in Palestine and Sudan.
He also stressed that the current regional situation has highlighted Egypt's vital role, according to the statement.
He added that “ensuring Egypt's stability and backing it politically, economically, and militarily is essential for maintaining regional stability.”
