In statements to Al-Qahera News, the source emphasized that Egypt reiterated to all parties participating in the Rome meeting the necessity of reaching an agreement that ensures an immediate ceasefire and the freedom of movement for citizens, guarantees the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and calls for the complete withdrawal from the Rafah crossing on the Palestinian side.
US news website Axios and Reuters reported on Friday that CIA Director William Burns is scheduled to meet with officials from Israel, Qatar, and Egypt in Rome to discuss a potential truce deal for Gaza on Sunday.
The source told Reuters that CIA Director William Burns will meet on Sunday in Rome with his Israeli and Egyptian counterparts and the Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
The meeting will focus on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of captives held by Hamas.
The CIA declined to comment on the statements of the source, who requested anonymity.
Axios was the first to report this news.
A Western official, a Palestinian official, and two Egyptian sources indicated to Reuters that the meeting comes as Israel seeks to amend a plan for a truce in Gaza and the release of captives held by Hamas, complicating the efforts to reach a final agreement to end the more than nine-month-long war.
