In a statement on Sunday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned "this could lead the region to slip into a comprehensive regional war."
Egypt called for support and protection of Lebanon, its people, and its institutions, to shield the country from the scourge of war.
The statement also urged the international community to intervene immediately to prevent further disastrous consequences from escalating the conflict, which Egypt cautioned could threaten global peace and security.
Egypt also reiterated its warning of the dangers of the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip, calling for the necessity of reaching an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire that ends the humanitarian suffering in the strip as soon as possible and restores security and stability in the region.
Tensions have been running high between Israel and Hezbollah since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza, with the Sunday attack complicating the situation.
Israel has accused Hezbollah of firing a rocket and killing 12 children and teenagers in an attack on a football field in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
It threatened to strike hard at the Iran-backed Lebanon group in retaliation.
Hezbollah has, however, denied any responsibility for the attack.
