The discussion centered on the latest developments in Gaza, joint mediation efforts for a ceasefire, and coordination to manage regional escalation. This call follows a series of similar discussions by Abdelatty, including talks with officials from Iran and Lebanon.
Abdelatty also spoke with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging the United States to pressure Israel to halt its aggressive policies.
Egypt, along with the US and Qatar, has been facilitating indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas to achieve a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, which has lasted ten months and resulted in 120,000 Palestinian casualties, mostly among children and women. The conflict has severely damaged infrastructure and displaced a majority of the population.
Meanwhile, Egypt has been leading humanitarian efforts to deliver aid to 2.4 million civilians in Gaza, who are facing severe shortages due to the Israeli blockade.
Tensions have also escalated between Hezbollah and Israel, which have been exchanging attacks along the Lebanon-Israel border since October 7. The situation worsened following Israel's assassination of Hezbollah's top military commander, Fouad Shukur, in a strike in southern Beirut on Wednesday. Hezbollah has vowed retaliation "deep into Israeli territory."
Further compounding the tensions, Israel's assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday evening has heightened hostilities, with the Iranian regime promising significant retaliation against Israel.
