During the presser, Abdelatty stressed the need for Israel to demonstrate a genuine commitment to achieving calm in southern Lebanon.

"We back all international efforts aimed at securing a truce in southern Lebanon and implementing the United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 1701," the Egyptian foreign minister said.

He noted that Egypt has consistently enhanced its strong stance through engagements with regional parties to support Lebanon, its government, and its people.

"We remain steadfast in supporting Lebanon's territorial integrity, safety, and stability," he added.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's condemnation of the repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanon, particularly those targeting Beirut's southern suburb, calling on all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation in the region.

He also expressed Egypt's full rejection of the Israeli policy of targeted assassinations, which threatens international peace and security.

The Lebanese FM extended his gratitude to Egypt and its people for their unwavering support for Lebanon amid the severe regional challenges.

"Egyptian efforts are focused on supporting Lebanon's sovereignty and stability as well as safeguarding the interests of its people," Bou Habib said during the presser.

He further acknowledged Egypt's endeavours to assist Lebanon in de-escalating tensions and calming the situation on its southern borders.

"We affirm Egypt's crucial role amid the current regional crises," he said.

International diplomatic efforts have recently increased to avoid an escalation between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, following an Israeli strike on Beirut that killed Hezbollah military chief Fouad Shukur.

Additionally, Iran, which backs Hezbollah, has vowed to retaliate against Israel after the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital Tehran.

Meanwhile, the US deployed more warships and fighter jets to the Middle East to support Israel against potential threats from both Iran and Hezbollah.

These recent developments have sent regional tensions soaring, with numerous governments urging their citizens to leave Lebanon and airlines holding their flights to Beirut.

Egypt has expressed its steadfast support to Lebanon amid the current threats and escalating tensions in the region.

Gaza war

During the presser, the Egyptian top diplomat emphasized that the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip raises concerns about further escalation in the region.

"To halt the regional escalation, Egypt advocates for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid," Abdelatty added.

"Egypt has intensified its diplomatic efforts with regional and international parties to de-escalate the situation in the region," he noted.

Moreover, he stated that efforts are ongoing to implement a prisoner-detainee exchange agreement in Gaza.

In addition, the minister emphasized Egypt's steadfast support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in fulfilling its crucial humanitarian role.

"Maintaining UNRWA is essential for upholding the rights of Palestinian refugees," Abdelatty stressed.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese minister affirmed that the ongoing Israeli escalation in the region undermines stability efforts, noting that the first step towards calming the situation is halting the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

"We caution against Israel's continued displacement policies and attempts to target UNRWA," Bou Habib said, stressing Lebanon's full support for Egypt's stance against the displacement of Palestinians from their lands.

Israel is facing mounting international pressure to agree to a ceasefire, with talks being complicated due to recent escalations in the Middle East.

Since 7 October, Israeli forces have killed nearly 40,000 people, injured over 90,000, caused extensive damage to Gaza's infrastructure, and displaced most of the strip’s residents.

Earlier Tuesday, Abdelatty and his Lebanese counterpart held a meeting to discuss the Gaza crisis and its repercussions on Lebanon, Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu-Zeid said.
