Abdelatty’s call with Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani on Wednesday, the second in less than a week, comes within the framework of urging all parties to exercise self-restraint to avoid spillover into a full-blown regional conflict.
International diplomatic efforts have recently increased to avoid an escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, following an Israeli strike on Beirut that killed Hezbollah military chief Fouad Shukur.
Additionally, Iran, which backs Hezbollah, has vowed to retaliate against Israel after the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital Tehran.
In a call on Saturday with Kani, Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo's opposition to Israel's escalatory policies, assassinations, and violations of national sovereignty.
Similarly, Abdelatty briefed in a phone call on Tuesday his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the results of his contacts over the past few days with the foreign ministers of several concerned and powerful countries to defuse the deepening crisis in the region.
Abdelatty warned of the dangers of widening conflict in the Middle East and its dire consequences on the region's stability. He also stressed that Cairo has worked with China and all regional and international actors to stop the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, the Egyptian foreign minister praised China's efforts towards achieving Palestinian reconciliation, stressing Egypt's coordination with the Chinese side to support Palestinian rights, end the war in Gaza, and enhance stability in the Middle East.
Egypt has intensified communications with various regional parties to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed regional developments and the tensions in the Middle East with US President Joe Biden, the Egyptian Presidency and White House announced on Tuesday.
El-Sisi highlighted Cairo's view on the serious repercussions of the ongoing war in Gaza and its negative impact on regional stability, emphasizing that achieving a ceasefire in Gaza is essential for peace and stability in the region.
Egypt, along with the US and Qatar, has mediated indirect talks between Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire in the 10-month Israeli war on Gaza, which has killed and injured 120,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, damaged most of the infrastructure, and displaced the majority of the population.
According to the White House, President Biden thanked President El-Sisi for his determined leadership in facilitating negotiations that have reached a final stage.
Meanwhile, Cairo continues its painstaking efforts to contain the conflict, with Abdelatty discussing via telephone the latest developments in Gaza and the region with his Algerian, Italian, and Lebanese counterparts.
