According to the Egyptian foreign ministry’s statement, Abdelatty's remarks came during his meetings with some African leaders on the sidelines of his visit to Rwanda to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Rwandan President Paul Kagame in the capital Kigali.

Libya

During a meeting with Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council Musa Al-Koni, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's steadfast support for a Libyan-driven solution.

He underscored Cairo's ongoing support for Libyan national institutions to hold simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections under a unified government to ensure Libya's security and stability.

During the meeting, the Egyptian FM also stressed the need to continue efforts to advance the settlement process and preserve Libyan ownership.

The discussions also touched on the necessity to disband militias and ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces, fighters, and mercenaries from Libya within a specific timeframe, in line with relevant international resolutions.

For his part, Al-Koni commended Egypt's key role in addressing the Libyan crisis, acknowledging Cairo's constructive efforts in supporting Libya's stability and its commitment to providing all forms of support to Libya.

Libya is still struggling to recover from the years of war and chaos after the 2011 overthrow of late President Muammar Gaddafi.

The country is divided between a UN-recognized government based in Tripoli and a rival administration in the east.

Clashes periodically occur in the oil-rich country between its myriad armed groups.

Sudan

Furthermore, Abdelatty reaffirmed to the Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Abdul Fatah Al-Burhan Egypt's continued support for Sudanese national institutions, unity, and territorial integrity, stressing non-interference in its internal affairs.

During the meeting, the Egyptian FM emphasized Cairo's commitment to responding to the humanitarian and relief needs of the Sudanese people.

The meeting also addressed efforts to achieve peace and stability in Sudan, with Abdelatty underscoring Egypt's ongoing efforts to help the Sudanese people overcome the crisis and achieve their aspirations.

For his part, Al-Burhan commended President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's leadership in supporting Sudan and caring for Sudanese citizens in Egypt. He also appreciated the Egyptian people's continued support and protection of the Sudanese in Egypt.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The conflict claimed the lives of more than 13,000 Sudanese and forced thousands to flee the country.

Egypt has since received thousands of Sudanese fleeing the war and hosted several summits to address the crisis.

Kenya

In addition, Abdelatty and Kenyan President William Ruto discussed various topics in Africa and the Middle East, especially the situation in Sudan and Gaza, and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation within the African Union and other international fora.

Egypt's FM also praised Kenya's mediation efforts in South Sudan and its significant role in enhancing stability in East Africa, stressing Egypt's commitment to supporting these efforts to achieve stability.

Abdelatty conveyed El-Sisi's congratulations to the Kenyan president on forming the new government, expressing hope for continued economic growth under Ruto's leadership.

Abdelatty also extended an invitation to Ruto to visit Egypt.

For his part, Kenyan President William Ruto commended El-Sisi's leading role in supporting security and stability in the Arab and African regions and looked forward to accepting his invitation to visit Egypt.

Ruto further highlighted the importance of intensifying joint consultations and coordination on all relevant issues, particularly water concerns, peaceful conflict resolution, and regional and international security and stability.

During his visit to the Rwandan capital, Abdelatty is scheduled to meet several officials attending the inauguration. He will also participate in various bilateral activities between Egypt and Rwanda.

Moreover, Abdelatty will hold a meeting with members of the Egyptian community in Rwanda and participate in a roundtable discussion with prominent Rwandan businessmen and private sector representatives.
