Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken
During a phone call, both sides discussed key regional developments and the results of their contacts and efforts, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian foreign ministry.
FM Abdelatty emphasised to his American counterpart the necessity and urgency of reaching an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the full delivery of humanitarian aid to the strip, stressing that this approach is the only way to halt the regional escalation and contain attempts to widen the conflict.
He also stressed the need for all parties to positively engage with Egyptian, Qatari, and US mediation efforts and commit to ceasefire negotiations.
Ceasefire talks are set to resume Thursday in Cairo or Doha.
Earlier this week, the leaders of Egypt, Qatar, and the US issued a joint statement calling on the Israeli government and Hamas to resume talks, close all remaining gaps, and commence implementation of the deal without further delay.
Sudan war
According to the foreign ministry's statement, the call also addressed the efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan, particularly in light of the Geneva meetings.
FM Abdelatty emphasised to Blinken Egypt's support for all efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Sudan.
"These efforts would put an end to the suffering of the Sudanese people and ensure the protection of their lives and property," the statement read, citing Abdelatty.
On the other hand, the US Secretary of State reiterated his appreciation for Egypt's role in achieving regional security and stability.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The conflict claimed the lives of more than 13,000 Sudanese and forced thousands to flee the country.
Egypt has since received tens of thousands of Sudanese fleeing the war and hosted several summits to address the crisis.
