During a meeting in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, Abdelatty emphasised Egypt's ongoing support of Lebanon in addressing challenges, according to the Egyptian Ministry's Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid.
Similarly, Abdelatty held a separate meeting with Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, in which he affirmed Egypt’s unwavering support of Lebanon. The two officials also discussed de-escalation efforts in the region.
Moreover, Abdelatty met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib to discuss the latest regional developments, especially the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the rising tensions on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
During a press conference, Abdelatty said that his visit to Beirut aligns with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to affirm Egypt's support and solidarity with the people of Lebanon during this difficult time.
In addition, Abdelatty affirmed that Lebanon's security, sovereignty, and stability are of primary concern to Egypt and the Arab world.
"We will spare no effort to protect Lebanon from the dangers of escalation," he stressed.
Moreover, Abdelatty said Egypt condemns any action that violates Lebanon's sovereignty or targets its territory, stressing Cairo's rejection of Israel's policy of targeted assassinations.
For his part, the Lebanese FM said that Egypt has always welcomed the Lebanese people in all fields. "We will never forget Egypt’s swift aid to Lebanon," he stressed.
"Egypt stands with Lebanon, providing necessary support amidst the ongoing regional escalation," Bou Habib said during the press conference in Beirut.
International diplomatic efforts have recently increased to avoid an escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, following an Israeli strike on Beirut that killed Hezbollah military chief Fouad Shukur.
Additionally, Iran, which backs Hezbollah, has vowed to retaliate against Israel after the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital Tehran.
Meanwhile, the US deployed more warships and fighter jets to the Middle East to support Israel against potential threats from both Iran and Hezbollah.
These recent developments have sent regional tensions soaring, with numerous governments urging their citizens to leave Lebanon and airlines holding their flights to Beirut.
Gaza war
During the press conference, Abdelatty affirmed to his Lebanese counterpart that the Israeli war on Gaza and the killing of civilians are the primary causes of the region's escalation.
"We are calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip," the Egyptian FM said.
He stressed that the resolution to the regional conflict lies in addressing the Palestinian cause and ensuring the Palestinian people attain their legitimate rights.
"Egypt, Qatar, and the US are making concerted efforts to quickly reach a deal for a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of prisoners and detainees," Abdelatty noted.
He underscored Egypt's intensive efforts and communications to achieve regional stability, reduce escalation, and reach an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
For his part, the Lebanese FM expressed his appreciation of Egypt's participation in the negotiations in Doha to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, lauding Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate the situation in Gaza and end the conflict.
"We rely on Egypt's efforts to end the Israeli aggression, achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, and reduce regional escalation," Bou Habib said.
On Thursday, an Egyptian mediation delegation participated in a new round of ceasefire talks in Doha, alongside Qatari and US negotiators, to reach a consensus on an urgent ceasefire in Gaza.
Egypt, along with Qatar and the US, has mediated indirect talks between Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire in the 10-month-old Israeli war in Gaza.
Since 7 October, Israel has killed and injured around 120,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, damaged most of Gaza’s infrastructure, and displaced the majority of the population.
