FM Abdelatty arrived in Riyadh on Sunday for talks on boosting ties with Saudi Arabia, addressing regional challenges, and strengthening the bonds of Arab solidarity in the face of these challenges.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, FM Abdelatty and his Saudi counterpart Prince bin Farhan addressed the Arab-Islamic Committee's efforts towards the crisis in the Gaza Strip.
These efforts aim at mobilizing international support for the Palestinian cause and exploring ways to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, exchange prisoners and detainees, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
FM Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm stance against any form of displacement of the Palestinians or the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, stressing the necessity for Israel to withdraw from the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing.
He also reviewed Egypt's extensive efforts with regional and international parties to prevent the expansion of the conflict, de-escalate tensions, and maintain the security, stability, and interests of the region's people, avoiding a vicious cycle of confrontations and violence.
The two top diplomats of both countries discussed the latest developments in the Syrian crisis.
They agreed on the importance of continuing the efforts of the Arab Ministerial Contact Group in Syria and holding the committee’s next meeting as soon as possible.
They also discussed the intensive efforts to resolve the Sudanese crisis and end the ongoing conflict, emphasizing the importance of Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, rejecting foreign interventions, and maintaining its sovereignty and the interests of its brotherly people.
The ministers also addressed the situation in the Horn of Africa, developments in Yemen, and the security of the Red Sea.
Egyptian-Saudi relations
Abdelatty and bin Farhan highlighted the depth and importance of the strategic Egyptian-Saudi relations and their shared destiny, particularly amid the current challenges facing the region where both countries adopt a common vision.
FM Abdelatty praised the efforts to swiftly establish the Supreme Egyptian-Saudi Coordinating Council, chaired by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
This council is expected to set the general framework for developing and monitoring various aspects of bilateral relations and elevate them to the highest levels.
The Egyptian foreign minister also expressed Cairo's eagerness to resume the meetings of the political consultation mechanism with Saudi Arabia at the foreign ministers’ level.
