FM Abdelatty reaffirms Egypt keenness to strengthen ties with Greece, Cyprus

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to strengthening its bilateral relationships with Greece and Cyprus in separate phone calls on Thursday with his counterparts from both countries, emphasizing the importance of continued coordination and consultation among the three nations.

Abdelatty also addressed preparations for the upcoming 10th trilateral summit with Greece and Cyprus.

In his call with the Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, Abdelatty stressed the importance of enhancing and advancing cooperation between the two nations across all areas, given the significant progress both countries are experiencing.

He also underscored the role of their long historical ties and geographical proximity in broadening their mutual interests.

Furthermore, Abdelatty discussed the preparations for the bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly later this month in New York to address key regional issues, including the crisis in Sudan and Red Sea security.

The two foreign ministers also reviewed the developments of the war in Gaza and its regional repercussions, agreeing on the necessity to decrease tensions and prevent further escalation in the region.

 

Egypt-Cypriot ties
 

During his call with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's eagerness to bolster economic and trade relations across various sectors.

Egypt’s top diplomat stressed the importance of exploring new areas of cooperation to serve both countries' economic interests while advancing their collaboration in the strategic energy sector.

The two foreign ministers agreed to meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to review their bilateral cooperation and discuss their joint efforts within the tripartite framework with Greece.

Meanwhile, they emphasized their mutual commitment to intensifying efforts to prevent escalating violence and instability in the region.

Over the past decade, Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus have enhanced their tripartite cooperation in various areas, such as politics, energy, economics, and defense.

This partnership has featured high-level meetings and numerous summits to promote and develop joint projects and initiatives.
