Israeli air strikes killed 356 people, including 24 children, and displaced thousands in Lebanon on Monday, the Lebanese health ministry said.

Cairo called for a peaceful resolution to the crisis, an immediate halt to the escalation, the unbiased implementation of the UNSC Resolution No. 1701, and a chance for diplomatic solutions, as military escalation will only worsen the situation, the statement stressed.

In its statement, the foreign ministry affirmed its total rejection of any violations of Lebanon's sovereignty and territory and condemned the dangerous Israeli escalation.

"Egypt has previously warned about the dangers of the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the risk of its escalation, which could draw the region into a full-scale war," the statement read.

Last week, Israel expanded its war in the Middle East, widening its nearly year-long war on Gaza to focus on the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah along its northern border with Lebanon.

Hezbollah and Israeli forces have been clashing near-daily for more than 11 months against the backdrop of the war in Gaza.

The clashes have killed hundreds in Lebanon and dozens in Israel and displaced tens of thousands on both sides of the borders.
