In a statement, Al-Azhar accused Israel of seeking to expand conflicts beyond Gaza, which it reduced to "hills of rubble and waterfalls of blood," resulting in thousands of civilian casualties.
The world’s leading Sunni Islamic institution expressed outrage over the global silence regarding Israeli actions, which have resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of Lebanese civilians, including women and children.
“Why has the world not responded to the cries of women and children in Palestine and Lebanon? Are there mutual strategic interests with this terrorist entity?! Or has the global conscience died?” the statement questioned.
Al-Azhar called for immediate international intervention to halt the Zionist aggression and protect innocent lives in Gaza and Lebanon.
It also expressed solidarity with the Lebanese people and offered condolences to the victims' families while voicing its complete rejection of any violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territory.
