President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani
In a phone call on Tuesday, the two leaders discussed the current developments in the region in light of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
El-Sisi also reiterated Cairo's rejection of any violations of Lebanon's sovereignty. He also warned about the risks associated with escalating military actions, which could result in serious and unpredictable consequences.
The call comes just hours after Israel launched a ground invasion of Lebanon earlier on Tuesday, backed by air forces and artillery, marking the first such invasion since 2006.
Furthermore, the Egyptian president emphasised to the Iraqi PM the need for ongoing serious international efforts to achieve a ceasefire deal in Gaza, viewing it as essential for restoring regional stability and reducing ongoing tensions.
A ceasefire would bolster the peace process and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, contributing to lasting peace, security, and development in the region, he added.
The call also addressed bilateral relations between Cairo and Baghdad, with El-Sisi and Al-Sudani expressing a shared interest in enhancing their cooperation.
They also emphasised the importance of building on the growing momentum and the historical ties that bind the two nations and peoples.
