Egypt probes killing of citizens in Mexico shooting

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs announced Friday that it is following up on the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident in Mexico that resulted in the deaths of several Egyptian citizens.

The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty directed the ministry's consular sector and the Egyptian embassy in Mexico to communicate with the Mexican authorities to uncover the full details of this accident.

In an official statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, expressing deep sympathy for their loss.

On Tuesday, six migrants from Egypt, Peru, and Honduras were killed after Mexican army troops opened fire on a truck carrying 33 migrants from a half-dozen countries.

The shooting occurred near the city of Tapachula, in the southern state of Chiapas near the border with Guatemala, Mexico’s defence department said Wednesday in a statement.
