Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty stated that the arrogance of power cannot achieve peace and security for any nation, emphasizing that “there can be no security or stability in the region without the establishment of a Palestinian state.”

Abdelatty to Spain FM

This came during a joint press conference with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares in Cairo on Wednesday.

FM Abdelatty stressed that Egypt and Spain agree on fully condemning Israel's prolonged systematic aggression against Gaza, which has lasted for over a year.

He also noted that Israel is employing starvation as a tool of collective punishment against Palestinians and urged the international community to take decisive, urgent, and immediate action to halt the Israeli aggression in the strip.

Moreover, Abdelatty highlighted the necessity of implementing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, stating that Egypt will make every effort to exert excessive pressure, in cooperation with regional parties, to secure full and unconditional humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Egypt’s top diplomat further condemned the displacement of Palestinians from the West Bank and reaffirmed Cairo's rejection of Israeli actions to confiscate certain lands and buildings belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

During the press conference, Abdelatty mentioned that his discussions with his Spanish counterpart also addressed the situation in Lebanon, emphasizing the urgent need to stop Israeli aggression against the country.

He also strongly condemned the displacement of 1.2 million Lebanese from their homes due to Israeli attacks. Abdelatty emphasized the importance of enhancing the deployment of the Lebanese army south of the Litani River following UN Resolution 1701.

Resolution 1701, unanimously approved by the UNSC on 11 August 2006, called for a complete Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon following the Israeli aggression against the country.

It stipulated that the Lebanese army and United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) would be the only armed forces permitted south of the Litani River, approximately 30 km (about 20 mi) from Lebanon's southern border.

Egypt has consistently reiterated the importance of empowering Lebanese national institutions, particularly the Lebanese army as it is the entity capable of ensuring the country's stability.

Furthermore, Abdelatty stated that Egypt and Spain share a consensus in condemning the Israeli targeting of the UNIFIL, marking a clear violation of international law.

Additionally, he emphasized the need for the election of a consensus president solely by the Lebanese, without any external interference.

Regarding support for the Lebanese people, Abdelatty mentioned that an Egyptian air fleet is actively working with Beirut to deliver relief supplies, including shelter, food, and medicine.

He noted that an Egyptian aeroplane is en route to Beirut airport to continue Egypt's airlift aid towards the Lebanese.

Egypt is continuing its efforts to secure a ceasefire in both the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, aiming to end the Israeli escalation in the region.
