According to the Egyptian presidency, the Egyptian president emphasized in his meeting in Cairo with the US Congressmen from both the Democratic and Republican Parties the need to put an end to the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon and proceed vigorously towards a ceasefire and the exchange of captives and prisoners.
El-Sisi also stressed the need to immediately and substantially provide humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza to counter the dire crisis there.
Furthermore, he highlighted Egypt's efforts as a mediator, alongside Qatar and the US, in the conflict in Gaza, stressing that bringing about peace requires all parties to demonstrate political will. The president also called for intensified pressure from the international community to achieve tangible progress that would provide security and pave the way for peace.
The delegation had an open dialogue with the president about the two-state solution, which El-Sisi affirmed was essential for defusing regional tensions and fostering genuine and sustainable peace.
Such a solution, he added, would serve the interests of all peoples in the region, paving the way for stability, development, and prosperity.
Moreover, the delegation and the president reviewed the broader situation in the region, the crises it faces, and Egypt's ongoing efforts to resolve and contain them.
According to the Egyptian presidency, the members of the US congressional delegation expressed Washington's support for Egypt and commitment to ongoing consultation and coordination on various issues that contribute to regional and international peace and security.
The American delegation was led by Congressman Tom Cole, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee.
