Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty condemned on Sunday in a phone call with Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri the Israeli military's targeting of the Lebanese army, infrastructure, and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

During the call, Abdelatty strongly rejected any infringement on Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, affirming Egypt's full support for Lebanon during this delicate time.

Furthermore, he outlined Cairo's persistent efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire and reduce tensions, warning against the escalating tensions in the region.

Egypt’s top diplomat also emphasized the importance of empowering Lebanese national institutions, particularly the Lebanese army, to fulfil their duties, stressing the need for all parties to comply with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701 in all its aspects.

UN Security Council Resolution 1701, passed on 11 August 2006, called for Israel's full withdrawal from southern Lebanon after its aggression against the country. It mandated that only the Lebanese army and UNIFIL forces be allowed south of the Litani River, about 30 km from the southern border.

Abdelatty also underscored the necessity of uniting all concerned parties to swiftly elect a consensus president for Lebanon and resolve the presidential vacancy, stressing that the election should be a sovereign Lebanese decision, free from external interference or pressure.

Moreover, he reaffirmed Egypt's continued efforts to increase humanitarian aid to Lebanon, highlighting the recent delivery of tons of relief supplies to Beirut to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people, especially displaced individuals.

For his part, Berri expressed his appreciation to President El-Sisi for the political and humanitarian support Egypt is offering to Lebanon during this critical time.

On Sunday, three Lebanese soldiers were killed in an Israeli strike that targeted their vehicle in southern Lebanon, where Israel claims to be targeting Hezbollah strongholds. This increased the total number of Lebanese soldiers killed to eight since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Lebanon.

The Israeli attacks on the Lebanese army come days after other "deliberately" attacks on the UNIFIL operating along the volatile border in southern Lebanon.

On Sunday, an Israeli "army bulldozer deliberately had demolished an observation tower and perimeter fence of a UN position," the UNIFIL said.

These attacks are the latest in a series of extensive Israeli military operations across Lebanon, following nearly a year of cross-border fire exchanges with Hezbollah, over the deadly Israeli war on Gaza.
