This took place Wednesday on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, which is currently being held in Kazan, Russia, from 22 to 24 October.
It was the first meeting between the Egyptian president and an Iranian president since El-Sisi met with the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on the sidelines of the joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh in November 2023.
Egypt and Iran are members of the 10-state economic bloc.
During the meeting, El-Sisi reviewed with Pezeshkian Cairo's intensive efforts to promote a truce and secure a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.
Moreover, El-Sisi stressed the need to rally international efforts to engage positively with all parties to restore calm in the region and address the humanitarian disaster faced by civilians in Gaza and Lebanon.
Furthermore, the two presidents also concurred on the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and Iran.
The meeting between the two leaders comes amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran and escalations in the Israeli war on Gaza and Lebanon.
Israel has threatened to carry out a devastating strike against Iran in response to Iran's massive missile attack fired at Israel on 1 October and Tehran has vowed to retaliate.
Egypt has repeatedly urged de-escalating the conflict to prevent the region from descending into a full-scale war.
Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi visited Cairo, marking the first visit by a high-ranking Iranian official to the Egyptian capital in over a decade.
During the meeting with Araqchi, El-Sisi stressed "the importance of continuing and intensifying international efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, stop violations and aggression in the West Bank," and provide urgent and sufficient humanitarian aid to alleviate the civilians' suffering.
Araghchi commended Egypt's ongoing efforts to promote regional stability and security.
El-Sisi and Pezeshkian participated in the BRICS sessions.
Earlier on Wednesday, El-Sisi took part in the first plenary session of the summit, which is being held under the Russian presidency for the BRICS in 2024.
