This came during a phone call with Mohamed Mustafa, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine, in which they discussed the ongoing developments regarding the Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank.

Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's efforts to intensify the delivery and volume of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Moreover, he condemned Israel’s obstruction of humanitarian aid, preventing it from entering into Gaza, and its control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing. He also castigated Israel for obstructing the work of humanitarian relief organizations and UN agencies and targeting many UN employees and agencies, especially the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Since the onset of the Israeli war on Gaza, the UNRWA has faced funding cuts due to Israeli claims that over a dozen of its 13,000 employees in Gaza were involved in the Al-Aqsa flood operation on 7 October.

As Israel restricts UNRWA and other sources of essential supplies—such as food, water, fuel, and medicine—2.3 million people in the strip are now on the brink of starvation.

Israel has been conducting a massive air and ground offensive in northern Gaza since 6 October, claiming that Hamas fighters have regrouped in the area.

Hundreds have been killed, and tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled to Gaza City, marking another significant wave of displacement in the ongoing year-long war.

Egypt has consistently condemned the Israeli attacks on UNRWA facilities in Gaza and Israel’s starvation policies and use of food as a weapon in its year-long war on the Strip.

Ceasefire efforts

In Sunday’s call, Abdelatty reviewed the joint efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the US to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of captives and detainees between Hamas and Israel.

A high-level Egyptian security and military team met on Thursday with the chief of Mossad and a delegation from Shin Bet to resume negotiations, Al Qahera News TV channel reported.

Additionally, a delegation from Hamas met in Cairo on Thursday with an Egyptian security team to discuss the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip.

Systematic violations

During the call, Egypt’s foreign minister also discussed with the Palestinian Prime Minister the dangerous tensions in the West Bank amid Israel's systematic violations and abuses.

Abdelatty condemned Israel's efforts to legitimize and expand settlement outposts in the West Bank, which violate Security Council resolutions and international law.

He emphasized the necessity for the international community to take a proactive role in supporting UNRWA's activities for Palestinian refugees.

Cairo recently denounced Israel’s plan to confiscate lands belonging to UNRWA in Jerusalem and turn it into a new illegal settlement outpost.

For his part, the Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister expressed deep appreciation to Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for his efforts to support the Palestinian people.

He also praised Egypt's role in alleviating the suffering of Palestinians and its efforts to restore their right to self-determination.

On Wednesday, El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for the Palestinian Authority during a meeting with his Palestinian counterpart, President Mahmoud Abbas, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Russia.

He emphasized the need to unify efforts to preserve the capabilities of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights to establish their state in line with international legitimacy resolutions.

Egypt has reiterated that the arrogance of power cannot achieve peace and security for any nation, emphasizing that “there can be no security or stability in the region without establishing a Palestinian state.”
