President El-Sisi will attend the G20 Summit at the invitation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva. This marks Egypt’s fourth participation in G20 meetings, following an invitation extended in December for Egypt to take part in all year-long G20 meetings during Brazil’s 2024 presidency of the group.
According to a statement by the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi is set to deliver Egypt’s speeches during the summit sessions, highlighting the country's development efforts and the challenges faced by developing nations in achieving sustainable development goals.
Under the motto "Building a just world and a sustainable planet," the summit will discuss several topics of importance to developing nations, particularly social inclusion and combating poverty and hunger, reforming global governance institutions, and energy transition within sustainable development.
According to the statement, El-Sisi will also address the ongoing regional crises, which cause persistent instability, amid the continuing Israeli escalation in Gaza and Lebanon, highlighting Egypt’s efforts to restore stability in the Middle East.
Moreover, the president will meet with world leaders to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance international cooperation on sustainable development, and discuss efforts to restore regional peace and security for shared prosperity.
The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty will also be officially launched during the summit.
This international alliance, initiated by Brazil as the G20 president, aims to promote social inclusion and eradicate poverty and hunger by mobilizing financial and knowledge-based resources to accelerate global efforts to combat these pressing issues, which are top priorities in the sustainable development agenda.
According to the G20 official website, the initiative aims to create a global alliance to mobilize funds and expertise for implementing proven public policies and social technologies that effectively reduce hunger and poverty worldwide.
The G20 is an international forum comprising the world's largest economies, which represent about 80 percent of global GDP and 75 percent of international trade.
It focuses on addressing significant global economic challenges through cooperation and policy coordination.
Egypt previously participated during the Chinese presidency in 2016, the Japanese in 2019, and the Indian in 2023
