This came in a telephone call he received on Friday from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, during which they discussed key regional and international developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East, according to the Egyptian Presidency.
Prime Minister Sánchez, in turn, highlighted Egypt’s vital role in fostering stability in the Middle East, combating terrorism and extremism both regionally and globally, and relentless efforts to broker an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, facilitate humanitarian aid access, and prevent the conflict from escalating into a broader regional war.
The call also addressed bilateral relations between Egypt and Spain, underscoring the importance of further advancing cooperation, especially in economic and investment sectors.
Both leaders highlighted the need to encourage Spanish companies to participate more fully in Egypt's developmental projects, focusing on localizing industries and promoting joint manufacturing initiatives.
President El-Sisi also reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Spain in light of the recent devastating floods in the country's southeastern regions, wishing the Spanish government and its people safety and recovery.
In a statement issued by Sánchez on Friday, he stated that he spoke in two separate telephone calls with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar, “who have shown enormous leadership in containing regional tension.”
“I have reiterated Spain’s commitment to peace and stability in the region,” Sánchez said, adding that a ceasefire in Gaza is essential to achieving de-escalation in the region.
“We must continue to push for the two-state solution, the only viable path to peace in the Middle East,” he said, highlighting the importance of Euro-Arab collaboration.
In May 2024, Spain recognized the Palestinian State officially in an announcement simultaneously with Ireland and Norway supporting the two-state solutions based on the borders of 4 June 1967.
