The two leaders signed the agreements immediately following their joint press conference.

Copenhagen marks the first leg of President El-Sisi's tour of Northern Europe, which also includes Norway and Ireland, and the first time an Egyptian president has visited Denrmak since establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1922.

During the joint press conference he held with Frederkisen, El-Sisi said the declaration, the MoUs, and the establishment of the Egypt-Denmark Business Council demonstrate the two countries' desire to foster political, economic, investment, and cultural relations.

"I agreed with Her Excellency, the Prime Minister, on the importance of implementing the key aspects of the Joint Declaration. This will serve to significantly advance cooperation between Egypt and the Kingdom of Denmark in many sectors, including maritime transport; energy and green transition; health and scientific research; investment; agriculture; tourism; communication and information technology; combating irregular migration and terrorism; and fighting poverty and desertification," El-Sisi noted.

He also expressed Egypt's gratitude for Denmark's recognition and support for its efforts to safeguard its water security, an existential priority due to the country's severe water scarcity.

Palestine and Lebanon

El-Sisi highlighted Egypt's relentless efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire and end the war in Gaza, stressing the need for efforts to prevent the Middle East from descending into a wider regional conflict.

He stressed the essential importance of establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, viewing this as a crucial step to securing lasting security and stability in the region.

Moreover, El-Sisi discussed the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza with Frederiksen.

Both leaders stressed the importance of ensuring complete, safe, and sustainable access to humanitarian aid without conditions or barriers.

El-Sisi also reviewed the outcomes of the recent ministerial conference in Cairo, held in partnership with the United Nations to mobilize humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.

He noted that he discussed the situation in Lebanon with Frederiksen and that the two leaders welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.

In addition, they emphasized the importance of further de-escalation in the region through the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and empowering the Lebanese army to extend its control over all Lebanese territory.

According to a statement by the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi and Frederiksen discussed other regional and international issues, including Syria, Sudan, Red Sea security, and the Ukraine crisis.

They highlighted the need to find peaceful and diplomatic solutions to these crises, safeguard nations' sovereignty and institutional integrity, and support counterterrorism efforts there.

A promising partnership

For her part, the Danish Prime Minister highlighted that Egypt is an important partner for Denmark and the European Union, expressing Denmark's appreciation for Egypt's diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.

Furthermore, Frederiksen emphasized Egypt's vital role as a regional partner in climate change and the green transition.

"This is a highly promising partnership that sets the stage for even greater cooperation between our nations," she remarked.

The Danish Prime Minister also acknowledged that Cairo bears a significant burden in managing migration and confirmed that they have agreed to enhance their cooperation in this area.

Earlier on Saturday, during his visit to Denmark, El-Sisi met with Søren Gade Jansen, the Speaker of the Danish Parliament.

According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), exchange trade between Egypt and Denmark reached $292 million in the first 10 months of 2024, up from $240 million in the same period of 2023.

Egypt's exports to Denmark increased to $63 million, compared to $45 million last year.
