Earlier Sunday, the Syrian regime collapsed after the insurgents seized control of the capital Damascus, sending crowds into the streets to celebrate the end of the Assad family's 50-year rule.

According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, Cairo called on the Syrian parties to safeguard the country's resources and national institutions.

Egypt also stressed its support for the Syrian state and people and its commitment to Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, the ministry added.

Moreover, Cairo reaffirmed its commitment to continue working with regional and international partners to alleviate the prolonged suffering of the Syrian people.

The ministry also emphasized Egypt's support to reconstruction efforts, facilitating the safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, and achieving the stability that the Syrian people deserve.

Furthermore, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty stressed on Saturday, during a meeting in the Qatari capital of Doha, the need for all parties to maintain Syria’s unity as a red line and to preserve Syrian state institutions from collapse and fragmentation.

The meeting, held hours before the collapse of the Syrian regime, was attended by foreign ministers of Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, along with their counterparts from the Astana track (Russia, Turkey, and Iran).

In recent days, developments in Syria have taken a dramatic turn following a surprise attack by a militant alliance led by the UN-designated terrorist group Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) on the Syrian army in Aleppo's northern province.
